Welcome to the Counseling Center!

“Working Together. Removing Barriers. Empowering Students”

Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! You can email me at ehughes@bethelsd.org to schedule a time to talk on the phone, meet in person or via zoom or to simply email back and forth. I am pretty quick to reply to emails so for the time being that is the best way to get in touch with me.

My name is Elizabeth Hughes and I’m the school counselor here at Centennial Elementary. I have been part of the Centennial Family as the counselor since 2006 and love working with the families who are part of our community. I love Centennial so much all of my own kids have attended! My oldest boys are at Bethel HS and Cougar Mountain MS and my youngest is a 2nd grade Centennial Cub! I am from Spokane, WA originally and went to Eastern Washington University where I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Applied Psychology. I then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Gonzaga University.

I support students, staff and parents in many ways besides individual counseling. I work to spend time in each classroom providing guidance lessons which primarily focus on age-appropriate social skills.  It's likely that I will have contact with each child at Centennial  in some way throughout the year. Should I meet with your child and concerns come up I will communicate home if follow up is needed or if you need to be made aware of an issue; often it is unnecessary, however. Additionally, I work with families to help provide resources (counseling, family support, supplies, food etc.) Family support is a big part of supporting students and I’m happy to help any way  I can. Resources are scarce and limited, but I'm committed to doing what I can to help you and your family. See below for links to all kinds of helpful information and resources!

How to Connect: There are many ways that I interact with students:

  • Self-referral - Many times students will catch me in the hall or pop by my office and ask to talk. I also tell kiddos to leave me a note and to put it on my chair so I’m sure to see it!  They also sometimes let the office staff know they want to see me if I’m out and about. This is a great way for kids to advocate for themselves when they have something they want to talk about.
  • Staff-referral - Teachers and/or staff from Centennial come to me when there are social-emotional concerns or when there's a behavior that they would like help with.
  • Referral from home - Families are welcome to contact me with questions or concerns that they have.
